The screening will take place on September 19, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Ecology Learning Center in Unity, Maine, and will be followed by a discussion with McBrine and Sarah Alexander, MOFGA’s executive director. Tickets are available now at ecologylearningcenter.org/event-details/seeds-of-change.
Filmed over the course of two years, “Seeds of Change” is an inspiring narrative that highlights the intersection of organic agriculture and prison reform. This film provides a rare glimpse into the lives of incarcerated men who find hope, meaning, and dignity through the act of growing their own food. The film premiered at the 2023 Maine International Film Festival and has received numerous accolades, including Best Maine Film at the Maine Outdoor Film Festival.
“The work Mark has done at Mountain View Correctional Facility has had positive ripple effects throughout corrections facilities in Maine,” says Alexander. “Their 5-acre prison farm and associated programs are a powerful representation of the core principles of organic agriculture including critical themes like soil health, biodiversity, and social justice. By advocating for local solutions and supporting marginalized farmworkers, ‘Seeds of Change’ resonates with MOFGA’s mission to build an inclusive and resilient agricultural future.”
In a place where life is often defined by shame and despair, “Seeds of Change” shows that good food can be a gateway to wellness and dignity. Join MOFGA to explore the power of organic farming as a tool for prison reform and discover how it can change lives.
