Spring 2024 MOF&G cover

The Maine Organic Farmer & Gardener is turning 50! In 1974, volunteer Tim Nason transitioned MOFGA’s mimeographed newsletter into a newspaper. While today — in the age of Google searches, YouTube tutorials, Craigslist, Facebook groups and podcasts on every subject— a source of aggregated information on a certain topic can easily be taken for granted, The MOF&G had the revolutionary power of connecting like-minded individuals around common goals. Its pages offered novel information about the organic movement as well as camaraderie. The longstanding tradition of sharing resources for organic farmers and gardeners continues!

In our spring issue, you’ll find articles on growing winter squash, using air prune beds for nursery stock, and starting a farm during climate change. Other topics include farming with less plastic, urban gardening, soil carbon markets, season extension with climate batteries, and heirloom seed preservation. You can read The MOF&G for free online here. Members, paper copies are in the mail!
