Soil is Key to Organic Production

MOFGA Certification Services, LLC has joined forces with five other leading organic certification organizations to release an official statement emphasizing the fundamental importance of soil-based farming for USDA Organic operations. MOFGA Certification Services, LLC has collaborated with OneCert, Inc., OneCert International Pvt. Ltd., Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) Certification, Vermont Organic Farmers LLC (VOF), NOFA-NY Certified Organic, LLC, and Real Organic Project, to draft a public statement, which they are inviting others to endorse in support of their refusal to certify hydroponic as certified organic under the USDA.

Join us in affirming that soil is the foundation of organic agriculture. At the heart of organics is an interconnectivity of living ecosystems. Organic farming systems are, quite literally, rooted in soil.

These systems are able to improve nutrient cycling, support biodiversity, sequester carbon and nitrogen, and improve the resiliency of land — as a direct result of healthy soils.

Add your name in support of soil as the foundation of organic agriculture and the source of these climate and health benefits.
