You’ve probably already heard the news that the Trump administration issued a sweeping federal freeze on all federal funding programs, which was then paused by a federal judge, and subsequently rescinded by the Administration. Programs that MOFGA implements for our farmers and our local food system are among the many thousands of programs that have their funding streams in the balance.
MOFGA is collecting the stories of farmers and community members about the role of federal funding in your farm and community. The vacillation and uncertainty in federal funding under the new presidential administration may force many of us to make tough budgetary choices in the coming months. This will undoubtedly have an impact on organic growers and processors in Maine as well as our entire agricultural industry. MOFGA is looking for your story so that we can take these stories to our elected representatives as they push back on efforts to defund the programs our industry relies on.
