It was Friday, September 22, 2006 and my sweetheart Hans and I drove from Brooklin to Unity to camp out overnight in the south parking lot before heading into the fairgrounds the next morning. We were in our old Toyota Tacoma and had fitted the back with a small mattress and camp stove, and after a quiet supper Hans gave me a small, handmade book. Inside, tied to the corner, was a simple gold ring with a sapphire that belonged to my great grandmother – he asked me to marry him, and I of course said yes! We’ve been married for almost thirteen years now and live not too far down the road in Brooks, where we love telling people that we love the fair so much we actually got engaged there.
