Government Shutdown Hurts Maine Farmers

October 16, 2025

Seth Kroeck from Crystal Spring Farm appeared on MSNBC to share his experience with how the ongoing government shutdown is directly impacting farmers in Maine, and across the country.

“We have both time and quite a bit of capital that is just hanging out there waiting for the government to come back in,” says Kroeck about federal funds that are frozen due to the shutdown. Different federal agencies step in to help with gaps in cash flow on farms, but says Kroek, “those agency doors are now closed.”

“Maine farmers continue to lead on national issues and sounding the alarm on the impacts of federal funding challenges,” says Sarah Alexander, MOFGA’s Executive Director.
