Maine Produce Safety Improvement Grant Program

Maine Produce Safety Improvement Grants (MPSIG) help specialty crop growers (i.e, growers of fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops) to: implement on-farm food safety practices; transition to compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule (PSR); and meet market demands for on-farm food safety.

Maine Soil Health Project

This grant is designed to help specialty crop growers, i.e, growers of fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops (including floriculture but excluding commodity crops), to implement healthy soil practices. Technical assistance will also be provided for participants to develop soil health improvement plans, magnifying the impact of the direct investment.

Organic Farmer Loan Fund

This loan program, guaranteed through MOFGA, is designed to help organic farmers and processors, particularly new and young farms and businesses, to build credit and relationships with a local bank.

Technical Assistance Grant Program

These funds are to be used for professional consultation and services for business planning, financial analysis or record-keeping development, market research to assess new markets, legal consultation for succession planning or incorporating, branding and logo design, and similar technical support work.
