Seedling Sale in Freeport
May 20 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Join us for The Maine Organic Marketplace’s annual seedling sale! The frost has passed, the soil’s warming up and it’s time to start putting your seedlings in the ground. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. seedlings and plants will be available to purchase outside of our storefront in Freeport on the lawn. We are excited to be offering seedlings from three MOFGA certified organic farms: Flywheel Flowers, Meeting House Herb Farm, and Rebel Hill Farm. The farmers will be selling veggie, herb and flower starts, as well as perennial and native plants. Visit the farms’ websites to learn about the possibility of pre-ordering.
About the farmers:
Flywheel Flowers is the vision and passion of Carole Mapes. In the fall of 2017, Carole was accepted for the Farmer-in-Residence program through MOFGA. Through this opportunity she was able to venture out on her own, and Flywheel Flowers found its start. Flywheel Flowers grows quality, unique cut flowers grown in rhythm with the seasons.
Meeting House Herb Farm grows over 80 different medicinal herbs and has a market garden of organic heirloom vegetables on 2.5 acres in Scarborough, Maine. In 2019, two years after founding the farm, herbalist Emily Springer expanded it to become a collective of Maine Farms that grow medicinal herbs with a focus on regenerative farming. Meeting House is creating a connection between herbal minded folks and Maine farmers who grow medicinal plants, making local plant medicine accessible for all.
Rebel Hill Farm is Julie and Pete Beckford. They grow certified organic field-grown perennials in Liberty, Maine, specializing in native plants. Growing for over 30 years, their plants are exceptional in quality. Their perennials are field-grown and overwintered in the ground, so what you get is necessarily hardy, healthy, and robust. Rebel Hill is committed to ecological health in both how they grow plants and what they grow.
