*Registration is free for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community members, as well as members of the MOFGA Journeyperson program.
Join Jacki Martinez Perkins, MOFGA’s Dairy & Livestock Specialist, to learn how to safely and humanely process chickens at the home or small farm scale. In this hands-on workshop, participants will be involved in each step of the process: from bringing live birds through butchery, to cleaning and cutting the chicken meat. This workshop will make use of small-scale processing equipment (plucker, cones, scalder, etc). Participants will also learn about poultry management, equipment options, and food safety best practices.
This is a rain or shine event. Please bring an apron and a willingness to learn! Each participant will take home an organic bird that they processed. Chickens are sourced from Rainbow Farm in Orland.
This sliding scale registration is designed to make the workshop as accessible as possible, while covering MOFGA’s costs. The recommended price for MOFGA members is $80; and the recommended price for non-members is $90. Scholarships for this workshop have been filled.
