Parasite fecal monitoring is a tried and true tool for analyzing livestock and pasture health in organic systems. This workshop will allow participants to learn the process of setting up fecal cultures and will give you an opportunity to evaluate your own animals’ health. We will discuss various internal parasites and the livestock life stages when these are of concern; physical symptoms that may indicate unsustainable levels of infestation; and some organic management tools that can be used to keep internal parasites in check.
We will be indoors for this class, in discussion and working with microscopes. Bring fresh ruminant feces on ice from animals on your farm, if you have them, and learn how to utilize a microscope to your advantage!
