Cut Flowers for Beginners

February 8 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

This event is being offered on a sliding scale from $0-$25. Please pay what you are able!

Come dream about summer flowers with us! We’ll be joined by Carole Mapes, owner of Flywheel Flowers, for this primer on growing cut flowers. This webinar is aimed at gardeners who want to grow more flowers specifically for harvesting & displaying indoors.  This webinar also may be of interest to those in the early stages of considering a small-scale cut flower business.

Carole will talk about the annual varieties she finds most reliable, including cosmos, zinnias, and rudbeckia, as well as some of the often-overlooked foliage and filler flowers which are so important to creating fully and interesting arrangements.  She will also share some of the tools and supplies that she finds indispensable. She will also talk about how she deals with pests that can be a problem for flower growers, tips for staying on top of weeds, and some harvesting considerations. She’ll also show us her set up for starting seeds indoors and share some tips about this process.

Carole will focus on her favorite easy-to-grow flowers, touching briefly on a few types of flowers that are trickier to grow. We’ll save lots of time for questions!
