Join textile artist Samantha Verrone for a hands-on workshop on bundle dyeing. Using food waste (like onion skins and tea bags), wilted birthday flowers and eucalyptus leaves, we will bundle textiles and steam color into cloth, exploring how natural dyes change by adjusting pH with color shifters like vinegar and rust water. We will also perform a snow dye demonstration, weather permitting.
Sample fabrics will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring light colored natural fiber textiles (like vintage linen napkins or clothing). Protein fibers (silk and wool) will result in richer colors with plant dyes. No experience is necessary.
Dyeing with plants and kitchen scraps supports a sustainable, regenerative lifestyle away from overconsumption and fast fashion. Mend and make do. Practice thrift. Renew old, beloved things with natural dyes and stitchwork.
