Deer Isle (Island Heritage Trust) – Workshop #1: March 21st, 10 am – 12 noon // Workshop #2: March 21st, 1 pm – 3 pm
Do you have an old apple or pear tree on your property that hasn’t been touched in years? These trees have an amazing capacity to produce beautiful fruit for a long time – and your tree may still have lots of life left in it! Learn how to bring it back into a healthy, productive state. At this outdoor workshop instructors will demonstrate proper pruning techniques with a focus on trees that have been unmanaged. This class differs from our pruning classes in that the trees will be older and haven’t been pruned in a long time. Some trees may require a ladder or ropes to access the canopy. Participants should dress warmly and bring their pruners, loppers, and saws.
The workshop in Dixmont will be taught by Angus Deighan of Rocky Ground Cider with assistance from Laura Sieger, MOFGA’s Orchard Coordinator. The workshop in Deer Isle will be led by Edgar Evenkeel of Stone Pome Farm. Thank you to Cloudy Mountain Farm and the Island Heritage Trust for allowing us to host these workshops in their orchards!
We have tentatively scheduled this workshop in-person. Registration is limited for this event and MOFGA requires that participants complete a pre-attendance health self-evaluation, wear a mask at all times, and practice social distancing. These workshops will be held 100% outdoors.
Participants in MOFGA’s Journeyperson program, veterans and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) can register at no cost. Scholarships available – apply here.
Please contact [email protected] with questions or if the workshop you are interested in is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist.
