An Apple Evening with John Bunker and William Mullan

April 5 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$25

Join us for a special apple evening with apple expert John Bunker and fruit explorer artist William Mullan. A short speaking program and cider tastings from our wonderful friends and sponsors (Westwind Orchard, Finger Lakes Cider House, Black Diamond Cider, and Eve’s Cidery) will be followed by an opportunity for book and calendar signing.

John Bunker is an orchardist, gardener, and apple historian. He is the founder of Fedco Trees, and owner and operator of Out on a Limb Apples. John is also the founder of the Maine Heritage Orchard in Unity, Maine, which serves as a publicly accessible living monument to Maine’s historic and unique apple trees. John has published three books on his apple exploration and discoveries, most recently the 2019, “Apples and the Art of Detection.”

William Mullan’s (@pomme_queen) obsession with apples began when he saw his first Egremont Russet at a Waitrose grocery store outside of London. Fascinated by its gnarled, potato-like appearance and shockingly fresh, nutty flavor, Mullan began searching for, and photographing, rare apple varieties. By day, William works at an artisanal chocolate factory in Brooklyn, and by night, he photographs fruit. British-born, New York–based Mullan came to photography as an autodidact and his talent was quickly recognized. His Odd Apple project developed into an influential and much talked-about series, reviewed by the New Yorker, the New York Times and i-D Magazine.

John’s cultivation of Maine’s historic apples and Wiliam’s incredible artwork come together each year for the Maine Heritage Orchard calendar, an annual fundraising project for the Maine Heritage Orchard. The 2022 calendar is all sold out but if you are looking for some great artwork – the 2021 calendar is available for purchase online here.

Suggested admission for this event is $25 and includes all of the above and two drink tickets for the bar. RSVPing is highly recommended to ensure entry as there is limited capacity for this outdoor, social-distanced event, and also to receive any pre-event updates. There is no rain date, so please stay tuned for any forecast updates. If the event is rained out, MOFGA will be in touch about refunds.
