Appalachian Custom Shearing

Appalachian Custom Shearing is a traveling shearing outfit based out of Scarborough, ME. We travel from south Florida to Maine every spring, starting at the end of February. We specialize in providing high quality shearing services to alpaca and llama farms, but also shear sheep, goats, and camels. We have 500+ clients across 20 states.

Hours and Work Season

This is a full time seasonal position. Travel will be provided to Florida at the beginning of the season, and return travel back home at the end of the season.

Job Description

This is an all in kind of job. We live on the road, travel from town to town, and work long days. This position is mainly responsible for setting up and breaking down shearing equipment, helping move the animals from the holding area to the shearing area, lifting up the animal and carefully setting them down on the mat for shearing. During shearing, you are responsible for moving/rolling the animal around as needed throughout the shearing process. Videos of the process can be provided upon request.

We will get to know each other pretty well. We will spend the days working, driving in between jobs, and enjoying good food from all the places we travel to. I will make sure that you are learning about the process, and when competent I am willing to train the right person to actually shear.

Deadline is Feb 15th, as the season starts on Feb 28th.
