Pruning Fruit Trees

These workshops have been re-scheduled to Sunday, March 13th due to the forecasted winter storm.

4 Locations:
Unity, Springvale, Bethel, and Mount Desert Island.

Fee: $45; $30 for MOFGA members
Free for Journeyperson program participants, veterans and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color)
Scholarships available – apply here before February 18th.

Learn to prune fruit trees to encourage vigorous growth, healthy fruit set and quality fruit yield. Collection and storage of scionwood will also be discussed. This workshop is appropriate for those who haven’t pruned fruit trees before, or those who have just a little experience. Instructors will discuss basic pruning practices and required tools, as well as branch collars, waterspouts, fruit buds, and more.

Unity workshop led by MOFGA’s Downeast Agricultural Specialist, C.J. Walke. Mt Desert Island workshop led by Edgar Evenkeel. Springvale workshop led by MOFGA’s Orchard Coordinator, Laura Sieger. Bethel workshop led by Eric List.
