Introduction to Forestry

June 12, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

$20 – $25

June 12 – Saturday, Two identical Sessions 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m. Whitney Woodlot, Gray. $25/$20 MOFGA and MWO Members

This half-day field course taught by foresters, soil scientists, and experienced landowners, serves as a great introduction to the basics of forest ecology and active stewardship. While touring a recently harvested woodlot owned by Maine Woodland Owners, we will cover woodland ecology, silviculture, legal issues, management plans, logging equipment considerations, and more.  Designed for those with beginner to intermediate experience with active forest stewardship, but open to all.

Co-sponsored by Maine Woodland Owners Association. All participants will receive a copy of the publication “Small Woodland Owner’s Handbook. A Guide to Owning and Managing Woodland in Maine” courtesy of MWO.

MOFGA and MWO require that participants complete a pre-attendance health self-evaluation, wear a face covering, and practice social distancing during the event.

To reduce group size, we are offering identical morning and afternoon workshop sessions; please only sign up for one.

Register for the morning session here.

Register for the evening session here.

MOFGA and MWO are committed to accessibility; you can apply for a scholarship to attend this course here.

Directions to the woodlot will be emailed to all registrants.
