Nestled on the serene grounds of MOFGA’s campus in Unity, Maine, the Maine Heritage Orchard has blossomed over the past decade, into a monument of environmental stewardship and agricultural heritage. As it marks its 10th anniversary, the orchard is a testament to community collaboration and educational innovation, showcasing nearly 400 varieties of historic apples and pears that were once at risk of fading into obscurity.
Each spring, the hundreds of trees blossom. It is a beautiful time in the orchard, and we hope you can join us for a tour to enjoy the seasonal display and learn more about the orchard, which both acts as a living gene bank – preserving Maine’s rarest apple and pear varieties – and provides a venue for organic orcharding education from visitors throughout the state and beyond.Â
We’ll also be honoring John Bunker with the dedication of the Maine Heritage Orchard Endowment in his name — a lasting tribute to his decades of work preserving Maine’s rich apple heritage.
Please note that no pets will be allowed on the tour, and any service animals must be leashed. You are also welcome to bring a picnic supper if you wish.
