Sweet Relief Farm

Sweet Relief Farm is an herb farm but also grows seedlings and shiitake mushrooms. We also lease our field to a produce grower and a flower grower. We grow our herbs throughout the 1 acre farm including in an herb mandala garden using organic and sustainable farming practices. We grow culinary, medicinal and tea herbs. We rely on community volunteers and interns to help us run the farm.

Hours and Work Season

Folks can work for us from April through October. It is part-time work with flexible hours. The preferred work time frame is a commitment of 15-20 hours per week, for the season or for 3-4 months. If you are interested in learning and working with us, we can work out a work schedule, no matter the amount of hours you can provide.

Pay

Compensation is a small stipend based on the hours of work. A 20-hour worker will receive $10/week (gas money). A 4-month or seasonal worker also receives 10% of herb sales.

Job Description

The work position is a part-time Herb Grower Intern Assistant. It involves learning about and assisting in our herb business from seeding in the greenhouse, to planting in the gardens, to harvesting and drying, then packaging and making mixes for sale. Since this is an Intern position, no previous experience is necessary, except we expected a desire to learn and an eagerness to perform the work. This job will include assisting with these seasonal activities. We start the seedlings in our greenhouse in April, which involves, watering, seeding, recordkeeping, and moving seed trays. By May we are harvesting and drying wild herbs, and planting some perennial herb seedlings and continuing greenhouse work. In June we are finish planting the herb seedlings, harvesting the perennial herbs as well as packing the dried herbs and making mixes for sale at the farmers market and wholesale accounts. In July we add harvesting the annual herbs, and repeat the work described in the previous months for rest of the season.

What to Expect from Us

As this is an Intern position, we will be teaching you all the way. We will work beside you, while you learn each task, but let you work independently when you are ready. We will always be available to answer questions. We will create a general work plan for each week. We will share resources with you about growing herbs to help you learn about the medicinal and nutritional properties of herbs. You will be free to experiment with your own herbal mixes and other products like tinctures.
