Bringing Back an Old Orchard

March 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free

*In the event of severe weather, the workshops will be held on March 22.

Learn to prune apple trees to encourage vigorous growth, heavy fruit set and quality fruit yield. Fruit tree experts will offer hands-on pruning experience. Collection of scion wood and storage will also be discussed. This workshop is directed at folks who haven’t pruned before or have a little experience. Instructors will discuss basic pruning practices and required tools, as well as identifying branch collars, waterspouts, fruit buds, and about branch training.

We have two locations for this workshop:

Branch Hill Farm (Milton Mills, NH/Acton, ME) | REGISTER HERE

Freeport, ME | REGISTER HERE

*General apple tree pruning workshops (not specific to old trees) will also take place at Katahdin Children & Families Foundation, in Patten, on March 21. Find out more here.

Know Before You Go:

March weather can be cold and fickle; please wear layers and waterproofs if possible. Bathrooms and indoor spaces are within walking distance of the orchard. Note that the terrain includes uneven ground, and participants will be standing and moving outside for the majority of the workshop. For any accessibility questions or needs, please email [email protected].
