Join us for a tour of the Orono Community Giving Garden! The Orono Community Giving Garden (OCGG) is a collaborative resource for people in the Orono area to share food they’ve grown, and to gather and learn from the process of gardening. The garden is tended to by volunteers, and it features a wide variety of veggies, fruits, and flowers that are enjoyed by the local community. In this tour, participants will walk through the garden and learn about the OCGG’s origins, its role in the community, what’s growing there, and more.Â
This tour will also include a guided “pest walk” with MOFGA’s Organic Crop &Â Conservation Specialist, Caleb Goossen. Participants will walk through the gardens and have opportunities to identify garden pests, and discuss organic management strategies.
The OCGG is volunteer-run, with support from: Town of Orono Parks & Rec, Orono Health Association, Food AND Medicine, and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.Â
Registration info: Tours in the Gather & Grow Series are kept free, with support from participant donations. You can support MOFGA and Great Works Regional Land Trust by making a donation in the “checkout” form when you register for this tour, or in-person at the tour.
*In the event of severe weather, the tour will be postponed to July 21 at 6 pm.
