Meadowcroft

Meadowcroft is home to the only Polwarth Breed stock on the North and South American continents, as they endeavor to create a new wool breed for the US as Katahdin did for meat breeds (also from Maine). 120 acre hillside farm at the top of the Damariscotta Watershed, located in Washington. Regeneratively grazed and managed (occasionally certified organic) for more than 30 years.

Home to the SEACOLORS dye process: Solar dyed in Seawater, there farm monetizes by selling small batch yarns, one of a kind sweaters, limited edition blankets, washable sheepskins, grass-fed meat, breed stock or wool wethers, herding and guarding stock dogs.

The Small Ruminant Residency is designed to set up the next generation of sheep herders who are intentional enough to take on Big Oil to restore our textile industry as a climate solution rather than THE problem. Let’s join forces.

Job Description

Responsibility entirely depends on skill level and commitment. I’d say COMMITMENT is the qualification for being here. Daily Grass and Critters need to be observed to determine next step for rotations and maintenance. Random Famacha scores determine summer handling requirements, increased if shepherd has not done their job properly…
