Bar Harbor Farm
Bar Harbor Community Farm is a MOFGA certified, organic farm located seven miles from downtown Bar Harbor, ME on a forty five-acre parcel of land. This is our fourteenth year of production. We grow over forty varieties of vegetables on three acres of land. Each year we have brought more land under production and have expanded our markets. The core of our market is a 150-member summer CSA, a 80-member fall CSA and an island-wide wholesale business. We are dedicated to no-till and minimal-till farming. We incorporate tarps and extensive cover cropping to replace tillage in the field.

Job Description
The individual hired for this position will work closely with two farm managers of Bar Harbor Community Farm. Our workday normally begins at 7:00 am. We aim for an hour lunch break; but during extremely hot spells, we may break and then return later in the day when the temperature is cooler. This job is full time from May 1st to November 30th. During August, hours may increase to 50 hrs/wk.
Spring work includes seeding, transplanting and watering in the seedling greenhouse, soil preparation work using both the walk-behind tractor and hand tools, direct seeding and transplanting into the field. Overseeing farm crew members and volunteers is also an aspect of this job.
Summer brings on the mulching, weed management, succession planting, irrigation, pest management and harvesting of crops. Once harvested, produce is transported to the washroom where it is cleaned, cooled and packed before delivery to our CSA market or wholesale market. Delivery occurs 2 days per week. Winter greenhouse production seeding begins in July and continues into early fall.
Other responsibilities include helping with loading and unloading deliveries, setting up for CSA distributions, equipment maintenance, hoop house construction, walk-behind tractor use, record keeping, maintaining orderly work spaces, keeping an eye out for improved efficiencies and perhaps most important, representing the farm to the public with an authentic enthusiasm for our customers.
