Aldermere Farm

Aldermere Farm is a historic heritage beef cattle operation run by Maine Coast Heritage Trust in Rockport, ME. We are home to the oldest continually operated Belted Galloway farm in the nation. We focus on Beltie breeding stock, sell beef and have a 4H youth program. We have roughly 40 head of cattle pastured on 80 acres and cut hay on about 150 acres of fields spread out over different properties in the area. We also have walking trails open to the general public. Erickson Fields, Aldermere’s sister farm is also located in Rockport and run by MCHT. We have a 4 acre vegetable market garden there where we raise veggies for local food pantries and teach local youth how to farm. Erickson Fields hayfields, pasture and a heavily used walking trail.

Job Description

Weekly activities are haying, fencing, pasture management, mowing, occasionally helping with cattle, veggie operations as well as trail work, general building and property maintenance. Tractor experience preferred. See full list in job description.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, assists primarily with operations of Aldermere
Farm and Erickson Fields Preserve including facility and property maintenance, woodlot management,
landscaping as well as hay production. Adheres closely to safety protocols, equipment maintenance
schedules and works as part of a team. Will be expected to assist directly with the cattle as needed.
This position is a full-time seasonal role that will last 7 months (range of mid-April through October – exact
dates to be determined).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Able to safely operate equipment including tractors (over 100 H.P), trucks, trailers, mini
excavator, dump truck, PTO driven implements and small machinery and hand tools.
• Assists with implementation of preventative maintenance for farm trucks, tractors and equipment
• Assist with building projects and maintains all type of fencing for the property
• Assists with hay production including processing, handling and storing hay bales
• Performs property management, landscaping and lawncare.
• Able to safely operate chainsaws and pole saws in the pruning and processing of firewood and
forest management practices.
• Occasionally assists in chores and management of cattle.
• Performs general maintenance on house, barn, shed and other infrastructure.
