Throughout the year, MOFGA hosts hundreds of meetings, workshops, conferences, dinners and festive gatherings. Many take place at our Common Ground Education Center in Unity, Maine. Beginner Beekeeping Workshop

February 8, 2020 – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity, Maine. Fee: $75; $55 for MOFGA members. Join us for an introductory workshop on beekeeping. Learn about the basics of beekeeping and strategies for establishing your first hive(s) from David Smith, the owner of Sparky's Apiaries in Hope, Maine. Bring a bagged lunch. Maple Sugaring Series

February 9, 2020 – Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sap Hound Maple Co., 414 Center Conway Rd., Brownfield, Maine 04010. Fees: $35 general, $20 for MOFGA members, free for MOFGA journeypeople. Register here.

February 23, 2020 – Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,  The Ecology School at River Bend Farm (184 Simpson Rd. Saco, Maine 04072). Suggested donation $10. Register here.


Hide Tanning: Beyond the Basics

February 18, 2020 – Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center. Fee: $75; $50 for MOFGA members. Join us for a hands-on workshop about the ancient art of turning animal hides into soft leathers or beautiful furs. This workshop is designed for those with some experience tanning. You'll get help troubleshooting common challenges, learn new methods of tanning, and can bring your own projects if you would like to work on them with support. Bring a bagged lunch. REGISTRATION


Central Regional Grower Meeting

New date: February 29, 2020 – Saturday, 1 - 4 p.m., MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity, followed by a potluck hosted by Waldo County Extension from 4 to 6 p.m. Join us to connect with growers and service providers in your region. Organic Orcharding Workshop: Bringing Back an Old Orchard

March 15, 2020 – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $55; $40 for MOFGA members. Dixmont, Damariscotta. Instructors will employ various methods to demonstrate proper pruning of trees that have been unmanaged. This class differs from our pruning classes in that the trees we will be working with are older and have not been pruned in a long time. Organic Orcharding Workshop: Top Working Fruit Trees

May 9, 2020 – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity. Fee: $55; $40 for MOFGA members. Learn to topwork new, disease-resistant, cider, dessert or heritage varieties onto your existing trees! In this workshop you will learn how and why to top graft and will be able to try it on your own. Workshop led by Laura Sieger, MOFGA's orchard coordinator. Please remember to bring a bag lunch. 2020 Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA

June 20, 2020 – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity.  Free • Open to the public. Come and learn all you need to know and more about living in rural Maine. Free! Over 40 unique, participatory workshops. Includes a plant swap, a potluck picnic lunch, and a stone soup made with your contributions.
