REGISTRATION

Designed for farmers and others interested in home food processing for resale or beginning to sell new value-added products. Licensing requirements, food safety, product testing requirements and labeling will all be covered.

Beth Calder, Food Science Specialist from UMaine Cooperative Extension and Tom Cox, Consumer Food Inspector with Quality Assurance, Maine Dept. of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, will present in the first webinar.

In the second webinar, Joan Cheetham from MOFGA Certification Services will give an overview of organic certification as it relates to processed food products. Then two experienced food business owners will share tips and tricks on navigating the licensing process.  Jenn Legnini from Turtle Rock Farm, a craft cannery in Brunswick, will share her experiences growing her food processing business and give a virtual tour of her kitchen. Then, Julia McLeod from Scratch Farm in Bowdoin will talk about her experiences licensing a home kitchen, renting space in a commercial kitchen, and - just recently - building a new commercial kitchen on her farm. Julia farms with her family in Bowdoin where they offer a winter CSA that includes fresh produce, preserved items like pickles and ferments, eggs, bread, soup and frozen produce.

Both webinars will be recorded and shared with everyone who has registered.
