Livestock Health Seminar OfferedFebruary 22, 2002 (Unity, ME) -- The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) and Crystal Creek, Inc. are hosting a livestock health seminar focusing on natural therapies and disease prevention. The forum will take place on Monday, March 11, from 10 am - 3 pm, at MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, on the Crosby Brook Road in Unity.Dan Leiterman and Paul Dettloff of Crystal Creek, Inc., will speak about the natural treatment and prevention of common dairy cow and calf ailments. The subjects covered will have direct application to beef, goat, sheep, poultry and hog production as well. Some topics to be covered will include: pneumonia, mastitis, ketosis, milk fever, alert-downer cows, udder edema, improving reproductive performance, uterine infections, non-surgical treatment of left side DA's, pinkeye, calf scours with, cryptosporidia, coccidiosis, rotovirus, natural treatments for lice & mange mites, a natural fly repellent, treatments for toxemia, calf therapies, the use of tinctures and homeopathy, alternatives to vitamin C injections, and much more. There will be ample time scheduled for answering questions from the audience about herd health issues that will be of interest to each person. This will be a fast moving, informative session that will give participants lots of effective and useful treatments and preventatives that they can apply to their operations the very next day. The registration fee is $10.00 per person, and $5.00 for MOFGA members. Registration fees will be collected at the door, although preregistration by phone is strongly encouraged and appreciated. Checks should be made payable to MOFGA. Participants will receive: lunch; a materials packet outlining the presentations; and a lifetime of cost saving information.
