MOFGA Certification Services Internship/Service Learning Opportunities

Guidelines: Interns are expected to put in approximately 6 hours per week. These are independent projects that need to be filled by motivated, independent learners. Periodic check-ins will be necessary at the MOFGA site in Unity, but most of the time spent can be at the discretion of the intern, provided expected progress is being made.

Positions will start between 15 January and 1 February 2005, depending upon when a meeting between the intern and project supervisor can be arranged, and continue until April 30 or until project completion.

To Apply, please send a letter of interest and resume by January 3, 2005 to:

Mary Yurlina, MOFGA Certification Services
PO Box 170
Unity, ME 04988
Or email: certification@mofga.org
Please call 568-4142 with any questions.

Internship Proposals:

1. Organic Seed Availability Research

Intern will conduct research on organic seed availability and develop a complete list of available certified organic seed varieties. Various sources of information exist in the MOFGA office in order for the intern to get started, but additional research will need to be conducted independently to complete the project. The final product of this project should be in the form of a database (Excel spreadsheet will do).

2. GIS Mapping Project

Put our certified growers on the map! Interns with access to GIS labs will map organic farms and other data layers to produce informative maps for web, newspaper, and brochures.
