The Maine Organic Farmer & Gardener Writers’ Guidelines
The Maine Organic Farmer & Gardener is the newspaper of The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA). It is published four times a year (March-May, June-August, September-November, December-February) and accepts about three articles from freelancers per issue. Some areas of concentration are:

Agricultural and biological research (soil-plant relationships, biochemical interactions ...)

Profiles of individual plants (edible and ornamental) and pests

Agricultural agencies, organizations and groups; influential individuals within agriculture

Agricultural resources, their efficient use and ecological management

Tools, equipment and machinery for small, diversified or organic farming and gardening

Farmers and gardeners, preferably organic, with interesting farms, gardens, viewpoints or techniques. Also, first-person farming and gardening experiences

Many articles from our paper appear on our website, www.mofga.org, as well. Unsolicited manuscripts are welcome when accompanied by SASE or sent by email. Queries are also welcome. We pay about $20 to $200 for articles, depending on length (250 to 2500 words, usually) and quality. Payment is on publication. We buy first or one-time rights. We do not pay a kill fee. Glossy b&w photos earn $10. Deadlines for final drafts of articles are January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15 for the respective issues.
