 Fair Volunteer Update

We need lots of volunteer help during set-up, which begins on Friday, September 14th. Please join us and we'll feed you, give you an organic cotton fair t-shirt, and free admission to the Fair. Thanks!

The deadline for pre-registering to volunteer at the Fair has passed. We still will need lots of volunteers during the Fair, so just come to the Volunteer Check-in Tent and we'll find something for you to do.

Of course, we also rely on lots of stalwart volunteers to help us pick up after the Fair. Clean-up starts on Monday, September 24th. Thanks for any help you can give us then!

 Welcome Fair Volunteers! Minimize

A very warm and heartfelt thank you to the more than 1,000 volunteers who braved the wind and rain to help us run the 2006 Common Ground Country Fair. We always rely on the boundless energy and dedication of our volunteers, and last year was no exception. The Fair simply would not happen without our volunteers!

If you've never had a chance to volunteer but would like to join us this year, please look over the volunteer job descriptions think about what most interests you.

If you decide to volunteer, please read through all of the links in the "Fair Volunteer Details" pane to the left, to be sure you have all the information you need to have a great volunteer experience.

Below are the areas of the Fair and some specific times where we generally need lots of help:

  • Before and After the Fair, we can always use more volunteers for set-up and clean-up of the fairgrounds.
  • Please consider volunteering on Sunday. Again this year, we are organizing a special raffle, with great stuff donated from Fair vendors for Sunday volunteer.
  • The Safety Team needs volunteers over 18 to patrol the Fairgrounds from dark to early morning. The seven-hour shift counts as two shifts!
  • Information:  Both the booth outside the Exhibition Hall and -- new this year -- information greeters at each gate need volunteers who are familiar with the Fair to help answer questions.
  • Parking! Help keep that traffic moving and be part of a well-oiled team.
  • Country Store:  With the addition of two satellite stores at each Gate, we'll need help moving merchandise more than ever.
  • Common Kitchen:  From cutting to cleaning to cooking, there's a job for you and your help is always appreciated.
  • The Compost & Recycling Team needs folks with good people-organizing skills to help make sure that all areas of recycling, from emptying trash barrels to sorting collected trash, are running smoothly.

We will begin assigning volunteer shifts in early August of 2007. After we process your registration form, we'll send a confirmation card to you detailing your volunteer assignment(s).

MOFGA continues to develop its year-round volunteer program to help run the organization's many programs. If you are interested in volunteering for any of MOFGA's programs other than the Fair, please send an e-mail or call 207-568-4142.

 The Fair Year-Round Minimize

There are roughly 150 MOFGA volunteers who work on the Fair all year long. They comprise the Fair Planning Team, and each member coordinates a specific area or aspect of the Fair. Among this dynamic and dedicated group of people are about 20 volunteers who make up the Fair Steering Committee, which meets monthly to provide guidance to MOFGA's Fair Staff and to set Fair policies. If you would like to join the Fair Planning Team and help coordinate part of the Fair, please don't hesitate to contact us. We would love to hear from you!

  • Zero Garbage Program Spokesperson - The dynamic team of composting and recycling coordinators needs additional co-coordinators to help present Zero Garbage ideas at various fair meetings through the year at MOFGA's home in Unity. Learn more about the Fair's Zero Garbage goals.
