Suggestions for Efficient Travel Time

Weather providing, the least hectic days to arrive are Friday and Sunday, and the best times are before 10 a.m. and after 1:30 p.m. Traffic on Saturday from mid-morning to mid-afternoon is very heavy. We strongly encourage Fairgoers to arrive early, to carpool or bike to the Fair from one of the nearby park-n-bike locations. Exiting traffic on Saturday afternoon can be very heavy too. Please consider sticking around for a while on Saturday afternoon to enjoy the Fair and avoid rush hour.

Carpool!

Please consider carpooling to reduce traffic and save time, money and energy. Connect with other fairgoers and share rides to Unity.

Free service provided by ridevu.com. People participating in Ridevu are not vetted by MOFGA, and a listing on it does not imply an endorsement. Participants are expected to do their own due diligence.

Important Update About Train Rides to the Fair!

The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad is very sorry to report that their trains have broken down and they are not able to provide rides to the Fair this year. They will be reimbursing all customers who purchased train ride tickets in advance. They hope to have the trains back in order for the 2019 Fair. Anyone with a question can call 888-317-2142.

Buses

In some years buses bring people to the Fair from locations around the state, sponsored by several Maine Adult Education programs. Because of low interest, Adult Education programs do not have enough ridership to run their buses this year. Gather a group together and ride a bus in 2019. Go to www.maineadulted.org and type “Common Ground Country Fair” for information.

Handicapped Accommodations

The North and South lots have spaces reserved for handicapped citizens. MOFGA provides shuttle service to the fairgrounds from the South lot, and the handicap parking at the North gate is located adjacent to the gate.

Please Park "Nose-in"

Parking your vehicle nose in takes 10 seconds; backing in can take a minute or more. Insignificant? No. This difference is magnified many times by cars waiting to park and contributes to traffic jams! Please pull straight into your parking spot!

Remember Where You Park

The fairgrounds have two main gates, the Rose Gate to the north and the Pine Gate to the south.

You will be parked in the North Parking lots if you arrive through Unity. These lots are large and flat. When you enter the fairgrounds from the north through the Rose Gate, you’ll be at Bicycle Parking, one of the Farmers’ Markets and the Energy and Shelter area.

South Parking is home to our large wind turbine and red barn. MOFGA’s lots on the south side are hilly and have thematic signs – “Fruits of the Harvest” (fruits and vegetables), “Farm Friends” (food, fiber and working animals) and “Garden Neighbors” (insects, mammals and amphibians related to farming) – arranged alphabetically along the parking rows. Note which sign is nearest your vehicle. See where you’re parked relative to the wind turbine.

Vendor Parking

Vendors get one pass. All support staff in separate vehicles will be parked in general parking, including paid parking. (Maybe you can carpool!) If you put all your passes on your dash before leaving for the Fair, you’ll save time and confusion for the parking staff.

RVs

We do not have room for RVs in our parking lots and are therefore requiring all RVs to be parked at the independently operated Farwell's Corner Campground. The location is only 0.75 from the Fairgrounds and there will be a shuttle. The address is 479 Town Farm Road in Unity 04988. Consider biking to the Fair from this location.

Driving Directions to the Fair

From Augusta - PLEASE NOTE: Normally we would advise taking Route 3 East out of Augusta to Routes 202/9. This year, however, it may be prudent to take 95 north from Augusta to one of the Waterville exits and go from there (Waterville directions below). The problem with Route 3 is road construction (one lane of alternating traffic) in the China area. If you're simply committed to the Route 3 East out of Augusta approach, drive until you reach routes 202/9 in China, turn left on 202/9 and drive up the east side of China Lake to Albion. On the north side of Albion, turn right onto Route 137, and follow it to Knox Corner. Turn left at the hill top on Route 220 North and drive through Thorndike. After Thorndike, drive about a half mile and follow the signs to the Fair and look for our large wind turbine. This is our South Parking area which accesses the Pine Gate entrance to the Fairgrounds.

From Bangor - Take Interstate 95 South to exit 174. Take Route 69 East to the intersection with Route 202. Turn right on Route 202 West and follow 202 to Unity. 202 will merge with Route 220 and then 220 will branch off to the left. Proceed south on Route 220 and follow the signs to the Fair. This approach accesses North Parking locations and the Rose Gate entrance to the Fairgrounds.

From Belfast - Take Route 137 North out of Belfast to Knox Corner. Turn right on Route 220 North and drive through Thorndike. After Thorndike, drive about a half mile and follow the signs to the Fair and look for our large wind turbine. This is our South Parking area which accesses the Pine Gate entrance to the Fairgrounds.

From Fairfield - Take Route 139 East across the bridge in Fairfield, through Benton and all the way to Unity Village. Turn left at the blinking light in Unity and follow the signs to the Fair. This approach accesses North Parking locations and the Rose Gate entrance to the Fairgrounds.

From Waterville - Cross over the Kennebec River on the Carter Memorial Bridge and follow Route 137 all the way to the town of Knox. Turn left on Route 220 North and drive through Thorndike. After Thorndike, drive about a half mile and follow the signs to the Fair and look for our large wind turbine. This is our South Parking area which accesses the Pine Gate entrance to the Fairgrounds..

From Points North - Take Interstate 95 South to Bangor, and follow the directions from Bangor (above).

From Points South - PLEASE NOTE TRAFFIC ADVISORY FROM AUGUSTA ABOVE. Take Interstate 95 North to Augusta (exit 113), and follow signs to Route 3 East. Follow directions from Augusta (above).

Meet Your Party on the Fairgrounds

Meet your party on the fairgrounds, not at the entrance gates. The Fair has two gates where fairgoers enter, depending on the direction they traveled: the Rose Gate at the north end of the fairgrounds and the Pine Gate at the south; so don’t tell family and friends that you’ll meet at “the gate,” because there are two gates. Instead, meet at a designated area inside the fairgrounds.
