"The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made, and the activity of making them changes both the maker and the destination."
- John Scharr

MOFGA Journeypersons BrennaMae Thomas-Googins and Brandon McKenney of Patch Farm, Parsonfield, Maine

MOFGA’s new farmer programs provide on-farm training, educational programs and mentorships.

The Apprenticeship Program (3-6 months on-farm experience) connects people wanting to learn organic farming with experienced farmers willing to share their expertise. The typical arrangement involves an exchange of labor for room, board, a stipend, and informal, immersive training and experience in farming.

The Journeyperson Program (2-year intensive including business planning) provides hands-on support, training, and mentorship for people who are serious about pursuing careers in organic farming in Maine. The program is designed for farmers in their first three to five years to further develop the skills they need to farm independently and successfully.
