Fresh Start Farms’ CSA program brings a community of refugee and immigrant farmers together with a community of customers who pledge to support these farmers’ operations. The growers and consumers provide mutual support and share the risks and benefits of food production. Growers receive better prices for their crops, gain some financial security, and are relieved of some of the burden of marketing. Customers will receive shares in the farm’s bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and different food cultures. There will be opportunities for members to visit the farm and participate directly in food production.  A weekly share will be pre-packaged for you.

What We Offer:    Singles shares (feeds two) for $240 and family shares (feeds four) for $480/season. Seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruit are included in your share. Member benefits include a newsletter, recipes, information on ethnic food preparation, cross cultural volunteer opportunities, and the annual Harvest Celebration.

How You Can Get It: Contact NASAP by June 1st, or after for rolling registration.  Choose your share size and pre-pay 1/2 before the first half of the season (July/Aug) and remainder before the second half of the season (Sept/Oct).   EBT users pay weekly.  Work Trade Option: assist immigrant and refugee farmers for 4 hours every week for 8 weeks at their farm or farmer’s markets. CSA Market Credit Option:  For every $100, you receive $120 in credit at Fresh Start Farmers’ Market stands.  Flexible payment plans and work-trade options are available, please contact to make arrangements.  Pick up shares at the Lewiston Farmers’ Market on Tuesday from  4-6 pm in Kennedy Park, at Whole Foods Market storefront on Fridays 4-6 PM in Portland, at CEI offices on Wednesday from 4-6 pm at 2 Portland Fish Pier, Portland or Water St., Wiscasset. Delivery to your office also available (minimum purchase is required).
