MOFGA has just successfully completed its 25th Anniversary Common Ground Country Fair, the fourth fair that has been held at our magnificent new permanent Common Ground in Unity, Maine. I want to thank our membership for their generous gifts to the Capital Campaign that made Common Ground, a year-round learning center for organic agriculture, possible.
Unfortunately, I have to ask all of you for additional help, because we are not quite done yet. As I write this we have about $380,000 left to go on our $3,100,000 campaign. We are right around the corner, and we are making every effort to finish completely by the end of this year. This fall, we have written to our membership letting them know that if each member were able to contribute $110 toward the balance of our Campaign, we would be done. Some members have already answered our call – thank you!
From the very beginning, this campaign has been driven by our membership – over 2,500 members have given to the Campaign, and the average donation is well under $1000. Our permanent Common Ground is a response to our members’ requests that MOFGA be tangibly available to them during the 362 days outside of the Fair. Now we are able to offer workshops (Low-Impact Forestry, Seed Cleaning, Seed and Scion Exchange), seminars (Spring Growth, Grow Your Own Organic Garden, Fall Fruit Tasting), and festivals (Breaking Ground, Small Farm Field Day, Family Kite Flying Festival & Picnic), as well as host time-intensive projects that this site makes possible, such as the heirloom orchard interplanting demonstration that was such a popular tour at this year’s Fair.
MOFGA does so much more – public policy work, apprenticeships, certification and technical services, to name a few – and we will be able to do even more once we don’t have to focus on our fundraising campaign. Please help us finish this if you can, and thanks.
