Painted Mountain Corn at the Common Ground Country Fair. English photo.

Beautiful Painted Mountain Corn
Here's something to be thankful for! This Painted Mountain corn grown by Ryan Parker of Newport won a blue ribbon in the Common Ground Country Fair Exhibition Hall. Johnny's Selected Seeds says Painted Mountain was developed for its hardiness, earliness and colorful display in the mountains of Montana. The decorative corn is easy to grind and roast and makes a nutritious flour. Fedco says it "grows where no other corn can." Read Dave Christensen's fascinating story about how he developed this open pollinated corn - saving invaluable germplasm from extinction.

Know Your Organic Producers!

Meet MOFGA certified organic farmers Albert and Pauline O'Neill of O'Neill Farm in Belfast, who first certified their blueberry field in 2012. They sell all their berries to another certified farmer.  Albert is a World War II veteran as well as a huge Yankees fan. (Don't hold that against him!) Pauline used to own the restaurant and hotel by Lake St. George. They love Maine's snowy winters.

MOFGA Certification Services certifies 35 lowbush blueberry farms.
