Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen: A Celebration of Community Supported Agriculture and Fisheries
Friday, Saturday, Sunday - March 1, 2 and 3
These events are part celebration and part education, as local farmers, fishermen and other food producers tell community members how to enjoy local foods and support local businesses in a meaningful way. Each location will have plenty of local flavor, whether live local music, tastings featuring local foods, sales of food and other products from local farms and businesses, film screenings and more.

MOFGA's Organic Orcharding Workshop: Pruning.
Saturday, March 16
$30. Locations in Jefferson and Unity (snow date March 17). Learn to prune fruit trees to encourage vigorous growth, heavy fruit set and quality fruit yield. For beginners and experienced growers. Course in Unity will focus on pruning 10-12 year old trees and include renovation pruning of an old tree. Please bring a bag lunch, course will run from 10 am to 3 pm. Information.

Organic Farming: Principles and Practices, by Eric Sideman

With presentations by farmers and other agricultural services staff from MOFGA. Learn the reasons behind organic practices (soil, pest and weed management) and how to decide the best practice in particular situations. Maine Audubon Society Gilsland Farm, Falmouth.

Inaugural New England Meat Conference

March 22 and 23
Grappone Center, Concord, N.H. Producers, processors, distributors, chefs, technical assistance providers, government representatives and other industry stakeholders network and learn from counterparts in other states and other regional food systems. Seed Swap and Scion Exchange

MOFGA's Spring Growth Conference
Saturday, March 30
10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Common Ground Education Center, Unity
MOFGA's annual day-long engagement with a single agricultural topic will focus on Garlic in 2013. The day will feature a keynote by David Stern of Rose Valley Farm and the Garlic Seed Foundation, as well as a panel of Maine garlic growers and opportunities for farmer-to-farmer networking and information exchange. Moderated by MOFGA's own Eric Sideman. Details.

MOFGA's Organic Orcharding Workshop: Renovating Old Trees.
Saturday, March 30
Two locations in Gardiner and Mount Desert Island. $30. Course is focused on pruning and feeding very old non-productive fruit trees in order to bring them back into fruitfulness. Instructors will employ various methods to demonstrate proper pruning of trees that have been unmanaged. Bring pruning tools and a bag lunch. Course will run from 10 am to 2 pm. More information.

Grow Your Own Garden Classes
Wednesday, April 3, 6 to 9 pm
Locations throughout Maine in partnership with Maine's Adult & Community Education program and community sponsors.
Each year MOFGA sponsors this statewide educational event at over 30 different locations in Maine. Workshops are open to people of all gardening experience levels, and are designed to provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to transition from conventional to organic gardening. Kitchen Licensing Workshop

Tuesday, April 9
Co-sponsored by University of Maine Cooperative Extension
10 am to 3 pm, University of Maine Regional Learning Center at Tidewater Farm, Falmouth
Designed for farmers and others interested in home-food processing for resale. Licensing requirements, food safety, and liability insurance will be covered by panel members, including: Dr. Beth Calder, Food Science Specialist for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, and Ronda Stone, Maine Department Of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry. Morning panel moderated by Cheryl Wixson, MOFGA's resident chef. Afternoon program will discuss labeling requirements, and organic certification requirements with a representative from MOFGA Certification Services, LLC. Registration fee (includes lunch): $35 for MOFGA members, $40 for non-members. This course is very popular and fills quickly. Information and registration.

2013 Maine Permaculture Design Certification Course

Starts Saturday, April 13, 2013
Held one weekend per month, April through September 2013
Class time generally runs 9 am to 5 pm, with optional films/speakers on the Saturday night of each weekend.
