YRK-13 York Vegetables/Fruit|Educational|Homesteading Community Supported Agriculture Yes Separate Full for 2016 Our small farm grows vegetables and flowers in coastal York County, in a rural setting but just a few miles from the town centers of Kennebunk and Biddeford. Our mission is to grow healthy, plant-based food while strengthening the interconnectedness of our surrounding community. We are inspired by the practice of permaculture and focus on soil health and holistic farm management; we grow according to organic standards but have not sought organic certification. Our on-site farm store sells our produce and flowers, alongside other locally made products, to both CSA members and the public. We also run a Winter CSA which features fresh greens and storage veggies. Throughout the season we host a number of workshops and events focused around agriculture, food, and health. The farm is 520 acres with the majority in wood lot and 30 or so acres in pasture, gardens,orchard, and cranberry bogs. We operate the farm with the assistance of our two homeschooled sons - Oliver (13) and Guthrie (16). We milk and rotationally graze 100% grass-fed cows and sheep as well as raise American Guinea Hogs, laying hens, meat birds, meat rabbits and honey bees. We make small batch artisanal yogurt, kefir, ice cream and other dairy products in our on farm creamery and market our products through our self-serve farm store, farmers' markets and a number of retail stores in the area. A dairy/meat CSA was launched in spring 2016. We have a farm stay cottage that is rented weekly throughout the year and frequently have farm events and visitors. We are managing about 24 acres; 3 acres of vegetables and the rest in heirloom flint corn, dry beans, wheat, rye, buckwheat and cover crops. We grind flour on our own stone mill. Most sales are wholesale to regional and state wide distributors as well as direct to natural food stores, a dry goods csa and a booth at the Artisan Bread Fair and the Common Ground Fair.
