We use draft horses as our main source of power. We milk a couple of Jersey/Guernsey cows for our own use, and keep a big garden with everything else we want to eat but don’t produce commercially. 2016 will be our first season on our new property. Our farm is located in Thorndike, we are about ¼ acre away from the MOFGA fairgrounds. We own 100 acres total, with 30 open acres. This coming season we plan to grow 8-10 acres of veggies and dry beans and the rest will be for hay/pasture. More...
WAL-53 Waldo Vegetables/Fruit Community Supported Agriculture Yes Separate 1-2 We are an off-grid mixed vegetable operation, situated less than a mile from the center of Brooks, Maine, about a 15-minute drive to Belfast. We grow about an acre of MOFGA-certified organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Our vegetables are sold to local co-ops and restaurants, the local hospital, as well as to our CSA. We primarily use a walk-behind two-wheel tractor to make our garden beds. Most other tasks are done by hand, with hand tools. We would like to provide an apprentice the opportunity to learn about all aspects of running a small, diversified vegetable farm (growing, harvesting, selling, and marketing vegetables, CSA, etc.).
