'New Scientist' Attack On Organic Is Unscientific
Soil Association UK - 12/2/2016. By Tom MacMillan - In a recent article for New Scientist, Michael Le Page is wrong to tell people not to eat organic if they care about the planet. He misreads the evidence, which shows organic farming is generally the better choice.
The redeeming value of weeds
Anthropocene - 12/2/2016. By Catherine Elton - Poor weeds. They get a terrible rap in the plant world. And to be fair, they mostly deserve it. They force farmers to apply herbicides and, for some crops, use transgenic seeds that are resistant to those herbicides. And they are a major source of lower-back pain for hobby gardeners forced to rip them out of their flower beds.
Who should control our food system?
Village Soup - 12/1/2016. By Nathan Davis and Jesse Labbe-Watson - Food sovereignty is the assertion of local control over our food system, and the assertion against control by big agribusiness and nonlocal corporate interests. Eighteen municipalities in Maine have passed food sovereignty ordinances, and food sovereignty is now before the Rockland City Council. Rockland would be the largest community in Maine to pass a food sovereignty ordinance, and the first city to do so. We strongly support food sovereignty, and we think the proposed food sovereignty ordinance deserves the council’s support.
