Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
Millennials pushing organic to new heights
Food Business News - 9/23/2016.
By Monica Watrous - More than half of organic shoppers are millennials with children, according to a new survey from the Organic Trade Association. Parents ages 18 to 34 years old represent the largest group of organic consumers in the United States. Among American mothers and fathers, 52% of those buying organic are millennials, which compares with 35% of Generation X parents and 14% of Baby Boomer parents.
White House Seeks Input on its Aim to Improve Coordination in Biotechnology Regulation
National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition - 9/23/2016.
The ever-evolving biotechnology sector continues to be an important topic among farmers and consumers, and business and the government. However, the process has been criticized for being convoluted and uncoordinated in its nature, with unclear boundaries of where each federal agencies’ jurisdiction lies, and how stakeholder input is obtained and utilized across agency functions. In response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Memorandum – directing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to streamline the biotechnology regulatory and review process – the inter-agency Biotechnology Working Group (including USDA, FDA and EPA) released three important documents in the past month.

New Hiking Path Connects Unity to Belfast
The Free Press - 9/22/2016.
By Christine Parrish - There is something about a long companionable walk past cornfields and into back woodlots that puts me in the mind of a slower time before selfies and Pokémon Go.
