Know Your Organic Producers!

Joel and Annalisa Wild Miller of Wild Miller Farm in Palermo raise MOFGA-certified organic produce and hay, which they sell through their farm stand/credit-system CSA, wholesale accounts and at the Common Ground Country Fair. They farm with draft horses and say, "We believe that carefully executed and ecologically sound farming is an art, something we constantly strive for. Also that farming with draft animals is a craft, one that we try to improve upon every day." They are also raising their two young children on the farm. For more information, please visit

Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
Go organic, local grown: almost a thousand words about this picture
Bangor Daily News - 12/28/2012.
By Jenna Beaulieu - I took this picture at the Commonground Country Fair in Unity this past September. It was a perfect photo op. I mean, come on now – vegetables with kid-size head holes on top? A great message bannered above them? Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Reviving Family Farming in Angola, Carrot by Carrot
Inter Press Service - 12/28/2012.
By Mario Osava - Capanda, Angola: “We never used to eat carrots, but now we like them,” said Rebeca Soba, admiring her vegetable garden, an island of diversity in the midst of a vast sugarcane plantation. Vegetable gardening has been introduced at the Capanda Agroindustrial Pole (PAC) as a source of income for local small farmers.
Can oregano oil be as effective as an antibiotic in chicken feed?
Digital Journal - 12/27/2012.
By Leigh Goessl - A chicken farm in Pennsylvania is using oregano oil as a natural way to ward off bacterial infections in its chickens. The company says it feels they are "on to something" by using this herb as part of its preventative practices against disease.
A Letter of Thanks to Organic Farmers
Farm Wars - 12/27/2012.
By Danan Whiddon - These days, one of the most important things to be thankful for is access to healthy food. We seldom think of the work that goes into making food - especially when that work is done with little fanfare or support. If you are one of the people doing that work, this letter is for you.
