"One hears a lot about the rules of good husbandry; there is only one — leave the land far better than you found it."
- George Henderson, The Farming Ladder

To Preserve Rustic Way Of Life, Maine Islanders Clamor For Modern Internet Access
Maine Public Broadcasting - 7/19/2017.
By Fred Bever - Maine is the most rural state in the nation and, also, one with some of the poorest internet access. Out on the coastal islands, internet service ranges from lousy to nonexistent. Residents of the Cranberry Isles, from lobstermen to telecommuters, are banding together to pay for costly new infrastructure they hope will help preserve a threatened way of life.
Keith Kloor’s Endearing Love Affair With GMOs
Huffington Post - 7/19/2017.
By Paul D. Thacker - Few science writers have worked as hard as Keith Kloor to impact public opinion on genetically modified organism (GMO) agriculture. An adjunct professor at New York University and former editor for Audubon and blogger for Discover, Kloor has spent years championing GMO products and portraying skeptics and critics as scientifically illiterate quacks. Kloor’s one-man crusade to paint environmental advocates as nitwits includes a classic of the Kloor canon: his self-aggrandizing piece in Issues in Science and Technology comparing demands for GMO transparency to the tactics of the Trump campaign and the anti-vaccine movement (a favorite bugbear).
Maine Food Insider: Thousands of 'grainiacs' expected to flock to Skowhegan
Mainebiz - 7/19/2017.
By Lori Valigra - Rising from its start in a church parking lot, Skowhegan's Kneading Conference, now in its eleventh year, is expected to attract 250 attendees, and the related Artisan Bread Fair more than 3,000 attendees coming from all over the country and Canada.
The Biotech Industry Is Taking Over the Regulation of GMOs from the Inside
Independent Science News - 7/19/2017.
By Jonathan Latham, PhD - The corporate takeover of the International Society for Biosafety Research (ISBR) and its biennial ISGBMO conference is a case study in the methods and the goals of the biotech industry. It exemplifies industry efforts to capture international GMO regulation and showcases the specific regulatory objectives of the biotech industry.
