Seasonal Cooking with Chef Frank Giglio: Winter

Join
Chef Frank Giglio in the MOFGA kitchen to learn about Maine seasonal cooking. We'll kick off some dishes to brighten your winter recipe rotation, including buckwheat injera with whitefish spread, shredded beet salad, cornbread with herb butter, chicken soup with verdurette, and acorn brownies. Taste delicious food, learn something new and have fun in the kitchen!

Chef Frank Giglio will also lead a Spring Cooking Class on May 23. Registration is now open for this class.

Farming Online - An Innovative Farmers field lab tested heritage varieties of potato and found that all varieties, including newer breeds, performed well for yield and blight resistance. A taste test also found that all tasted good when cooked as chips and mash.
GM maize in Spain could spread uncontrollably

In an open letter to the EU Commission, several Spanish, British and German organisations are urging that effective measures be taken to prevent genetically engineered maize from spreading into the environment. As evidenced by the organisations, the ancestor of cultivated maize, teosinte, is widely invading agricultural landscapes in several regions of Spain where, in some cases, the genetically engineered maize MON810 is also cultivated which is producing an insecticidal protein.
