Food safety group calls for court to limit GMO seed patents
Reuters - 12/10/2012. By Carey Gillam – Patent protection for genetically modified corn, soybeans and other crop must be limited so farmers can save their seeds and protect themselves against litigation, a public interest group said in a filing with the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday in a case involving global seed giant Monsanto Co.

Maine organic farmers' group leader dies
Boston Globe - 12/10/2012. Mount Vernon, Maine (AP) – Russell Libby, a tireless advocate for organic farmers in Maine, has died. He was 56. The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association announced that Libby died at his Mount Vernon home on Sunday after a long struggle with cancer.

Drought and Economy Plague Sheep Farmers
New York Times - 12/10/2012.

By Jack Healy – Since he was a boy in western Colorado, John Bartmann seemed destined to become a sheep man. He raised lambs with the local 4-H club and sheared them for elderly German farmers. His office is lined with paintings of sheep and a plaque honoring him for “promoting culinary excellence” in lambs.
