Meet Rani and Jack Howe of Skyscraper Hill Farm in Brooks. This MOFGA certified organic farm raises Christmas trees, sold from the farm and through the Marsh River Co-op and the Belfast Co-op. Senate follows House in strong support of GMO food labeling

By Christopher Cousins - Support for mandating that genetically modified foods bear labels in Maine was as strong Wednesday in the Senate as it was Tuesday in the House, with lawmakers from both parties supporting the measure.

By David Knowles - The state’s Senate unanimously approved a similar version of the bill on Wednesday, after House of Representatives approved LD 718 on Tuesday by a vote of 141 to 4. The final bill will eventually head to Gov. Paul LePage.
California judge may ask FDA to act on genetic food labeling

By Jessica Dye (Reuters) - A federal judge in California is considering whether to temporarily halt a proposed class action in order to allow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to determine whether genetically engineered foods can be labeled "all natural."

By Michael Hansen - The new peer-reviewed long-term pig feeding study just published raises important concerns about possible health impacts of consuming genetically engineered (GE) corn and soy. There have been very few animal feeding studies of GE food to date, and extremely few that lasted longer than 90 days. This new study looked at pigs fed GE corn and soy under commercial production conditions over a 22.7 week period. Compared to a control group that was fed conventional corn and soy, the GE-fed pigs showed significant increases in severe stomach inflammation and thickening of the uterus.
