MOFGA's Chainsaw Safety Workshop Level I

362 Flat Rd., West Bethel.
$50/members, $60/non-members


Whether you are an aspiring logger, woodlot manager or occasional chainsaw user, this course is invaluable. The chainsaw is an amazingly powerful tool, but without proper training and knowledge it can be a very dangerous tool. Work with our highly skilled instructors for the day and learn to use your chainsaw safely. Participants should bring their protective equipment and a lunch. Water is available. Registration.

Salt Water Farm now in Rockport

By Chris Wolf - Salt Water Farm, of Lincolnville fame, has opened a café and market in Rockport at 24 Central St. in the village's Union Hall. The café will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The market is integrated with the café and offers fresh produce, goods and provisions. Baked goods and bread are all made fresh on site, plus to-go items are available from the daily menu.

Pesticide Makers Seek Answers as Bee Losses Sting Agriculture

By Carey Gillam, Reuters - Monsanto Co is hosting a "Bee Summit." Bayer AG is breaking ground on a "Bee Care Center." And Sygenta AG is funding grants for research into the accelerating demise of honeybees in the United States. The agrichemical companies are taking these initiatives at a time when their best-selling pesticides are under fire from environmental and food activists who say the chemicals are killing off millions of bees. The companies say their pesticides are not the problem, but critics say science shows the opposite.
