MOFGA Bud Grafting Workshop

Join Seth Yentes for our Bud Grafting Workshop taught at North Branch Farm in Monroe, Maine, on August 9. In this workshop you will have an overview of grafting techniques, participate in a discussion of rootstock and fruit trees, and apply techniques learned about bud grafting, which can be applied to various fruit trees. Seth Yentes has been grafting for 14 years and grows thousands of fruit trees every year, including apples, pears, peaches, plums and many more. Registration on the MOFGA Store

UMass Amherst Climate Modelers See Possible Warmer, Wetter Northeast Winters by 2070
UMass Amherst - 12/12/2012.
A new high-resolution climate study by University of Massachusetts Amherst climate scientists, the first to apply regional climate models to examine likely near-term changes in temperature and precipitation across the Northeast United States, suggests temperatures are going to be significantly warmer in all seasons in the next 30 years, especially in winter. Also, they project that winters will be wetter, with more rain likely than snow.

By Dennis Hevesi – Russell Libby, one of the nation’s leading advocates for organic farming, died on Sunday at his farm in Mount Vernon, Me. He was 56. What began with his fourth-grade teacher handing out packets of vegetable seeds to her students in Sorrento, Me., nearly five decades ago, evolved into a lifelong passion for Mr. Libby and a deep concern about industrial farming and its use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
