Know Your Organic Producers!

Meet Gina Hancock of MOFGA-certified organic Hancock Family Farm in Casco, Maine. The Hancocks (Gina, Geof and their two daughters) grow vegetables, vegetable seedlings, cut flowers and herbs, which they sell through their own farm stand, at the Bridgton and Kennebunk farmers’ markets and through their community supported agriculture program. "We believe that building and tending quality soil will translate into healthy, nutritious vegetables; that livestock deserves respectful handling and the opportunity to live out their lives on pasture; and that great farming doesn't happen without community," say the Hancocks. Learn more about Hancock Family Farm on their website and on their Facebook page.

The Progressive - 12/13/2012.
By Jim Goodman – “The Farmers Assurance Provision” is the title of a rider, Section 733, inserted into the House of Representatives 2013 Agriculture Appropriations Bill. Somehow, as a farmer, I don't feel the least bit assured.
Pesticide chemicals linked to food allergies
Grist - 12/13/2012.
By Susie Cagle – You may not be at all surprised to learn that pesticides are bad for us. No, but, like, really bad. Today’s kids have grown up with a new normal of pesticide-laden food and increased food allergies. According to a new study, those two things might be connected.
