2017 Poster for the Common Ground Country Fair

2017 Common Ground Country Fair Poster!

The 2017 Common Ground Country Fair poster was unveiled during the Maine Agricultural Trades Show in January. The poster features three Columbian Wyandotte chickens roosting. This uncommon variety is well suited to Maine's climate and is raised for both meat and egg production. Local artist Dwight Gagnon of Benton created the design, which is a delightful and fitting image for the 41st annual Common Ground Country Fair, September 22, 23 and 24.
The poster is now available online through our MOFGA Store.

How Two College Pals Are Growing A Solution To Our Reliance On Plastic
Fast Company - 5/23/2013.
By Patrick James - Six years ago, Eben Bayer and Gavin McIntyre were college friends with a bright idea: using mushrooms and agricultural byproducts to create an alternative to plastic. Now, they’re growing a business that could change almost everything about how we live.
What’s in Your Green Tea?
The New York Times - 5/23/2013.
By Anahad O’Connor - Some bottled varieties appear to be little more than sugar water, containing little of the antioxidants that have given the beverage its good name. And some green tea leaves, particularly those from China, are contaminated with lead, though the metal does not appear to leach out during the brewing process.
Gut punch: Monsanto could be destroying your microbiome
Grist - 5/23/2013.
By Tom Laskawy - First the bad news: The “safest” herbicide in the history of science may be harming us in ways we’re just beginning to understand. And now for the really bad news: Because too much is never enough, the Environmental Protection Agency just raised the allowable limits for how much of that chemical can remain on the food we eat. If you haven’t guessed its identity yet, it’s Monsanto’s Roundup, a powerful weed killer.
U.S. Senate Roll Call Vote on Right of States to Label GE Foods
U.S. Senate - 5/23/2013.
The U.S. Senate voted 27 in favor (including Sen. Angus King) and 71 opposed (including Sen. Susan Collins) to amendment 965 to S. 954 (Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013) “To permit States to require that any food, beverage, or other edible product offered for sale have a label on indicating that the food, beverage, or other edible product contains a genetically engineered ingredient.”
