Our yearly Spring Growth Conference is a daylong event that digs deeply into topics that impact farmers, whether a specific crop, technique or management practice. The 2016 conference will focus on the basis of farming: soils.

Cultivating Community and Environmental Health, The 34th National Pesticide Forum
Beyond Pesticides - 1/19/2016.
We hope you will join us at Cultivating Community and Environmental Health: Models for sustainable and organic strategies to protect ecosystems, pollinators, and waterways, the 34th National Pesticide Forum. The forum will be held April 15-16, 2016 at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine. This year’s conference focuses adoption of policies to protect human health and the environment, and organic land and building management strategies. Other topics include ensuring scientific integrity, water quality, protecting pollinators, pesticides in schools and hospitals, and genetic engineering.
Final NOP’s Natural Resources and Biodiversity Conservation Guidance is Raising the Bar to a Higher Level, but Did Not Go Far Enough

On January 15, 2016 the National Organic Program (NOP) released the final version of their Natural Resources and Biodiversity Conservation Guidance. It comes after Wild Farm Alliance and partners wrote the initial text and subsequently led comments from the organic community on the NOP’s draft.
‘We need farmers’: Pilot loan program seeks Down East farmers

By Johanna S. Billings - Machias: The Maine Farmland Trust is seeking applicants for its Land Access Loan Program in Washington County. The program, designed to help farmers obtain farmland, was piloted in January 2015 with plans to expand it statewide in 2016, according to Erica Buswell, project manager in land protection and farmland access at Maine Farmland Trust. “We haven’t had anyone submit a loan application yet,” she said Tuesday, adding she is not sure why. Some people have called expressing interest, but no one has moved forward.
