Feedlots vs. pastures: two very different ways to fatten cattle
The Atlantic - 12/28/2011.
By Barry Estabrook – Before buying your next cut of beef, consider these two photographs. The first is of the Harris Ranch Beef Company feedlot along Interstate 5, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Maine’s case against a Blue Hill farmer and his cow gains national attention
Bangor Daily News - 12/28/2011.
By Kevin Miller – East Blue Hill: Officially, her name is Sprocket. But Dan Brown has a tongue-in-cheek moniker for the 4-year-old cow at the heart of his legal problems with the state of Maine: Troublemaker.

Los Angeles Times - 12/27/2011.
By Dean Kuipers – Bad news for the Gulf of Mexico: a study released this week sheds new light on the toxicity of oil in aquatic environments, and shows that environmental impact studies currently in use may be inadequate. The report is to be published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
